There are many things I learned from this course throughout the six weeks. Despite having been in the education system for 15 years, there seems to be a lot I didn’t know about. The biggest thing I learned throughout this course was the importance of individualizing an education program. Although I have often discussed this problem in a business context, I had never related it to education. Understanding that an education system is not universal seems to be a major problem in today’s world. This was a recurring topic throughout the course that came up in some way in almost every topic we discussed. Just being aware of this fact will help in becoming a more mindful global citizen.
Another key learning experience from the course was the importance of communication. Although I don’t believe that the Eastern world needs to be ‘Westernized’ I think that it could benefit from the West’s experiences just as the West could learn from the East. Having open communication between school boards and principles around the world is a great way to keep education up to date and to ensure that people truly understand how they are global citizens. Being able to share resources and experiences can only help the education system grow.
Lastly, the biggest thing I learned from this course was how similar it was to my faculty. Going into this class I assumed I would be completely out of my comfort zone and that it would have nothing to do with the other courses I have taken. What I learned is that business and education are both interconnected and global. In the economy, a decrease in the price of tea in China could actually have a great affect on the everyday life of a Canadian citizen. Similarly, the way a student is educated dictates the future of a country and how it will interact on the global field. There is a delicate balance for both education and business on which countries are run. They both have a lasting affect on the future of a countries economy, politics, and social well being. Business and education both need to be taken very seriously and people must understand that everything is interconnected and that we are all truly global citizens.

My favourite part of the course was creating my own global education activity and watching the living on one dollar videos.
